att.com/deviceunlock – Unlock an AT&T Wireless Phone or Tablet

April 28, 2020 By Ellen

AT&T Device Unlock

  • Logon to unlock your AT&T device to work on another network besides AT&T
  • AT&T can not unlock devices that are currently locked to another carrier
  • Your AT&T account must be active for a minimum of 60 days with no past due or unpaid balances

If you’ve purchased a new cell phone, you may be wondering what to do with your old one. If you’re selling your old AT&T device, you’re going to want to make sure it’s unlocked before you give it to someone else. Cell phones are “locked in” to use on one certain carrier. If you have an old AT&T device that was locked to the AT&T network, you will need to send an “unlock request” for the phone to work on another carrier’s network.

If you upgraded before your regular time frame, known as an “early upgrade,” you will need to wait two weeks for what’s called a “buyer’s remorse” window before you unlock your previous device. This makes sure that you really do want the device you’ve purchase.

To unlock your AT&T phone, it cannot be reported lost or stolen, and it cannot be associated with any sort of criminal activity. Your AT&T service commitments must be completed for the device to be unlocked, and any installment plans must be paid off. If you ended your agreement early, any early termination fees must be paid in full. Your AT&T device also can not be currently active on a different AT&T customer’s account.

AT&T can not unlock devices that are currently locked to another carrier. This request must be made through the carrier that the device is locked to. Remember that AT&T does have the right to deny any unlock request that they feel would be a violation or abuse of their company policy.
