FTC v. AT&T Settlement revolves around claims that AT&T charged customers for unauthorized text messages such as horoscopes, celebrity gossip, and flirting tips all in a low life attempt to increase bottom line profits.  Anyone who was a AT&T customer after January 1, 2009 and received a similar text message will want to file for a refund.  To file a claim the user must have the following:



  • Current Phone Number: ex. 999-999-9999
  • Valid email address

Other FTC v. AT&T Settlement Highlights

  • A total settlement amount of $105 million has been authorized by a federal judge
  • $80 million of which will be paid to the consumers who file timely refund forms
  • $20 million will be paid in the form of penalties and fees to the states
  • AT&T customers will billed $9.99 per month for unauthorized text messages
  • It is estimated AT&T charged customers hundreds of millions of dollars for these test messages
  • FTC and AT&T are required to notify every customer who fell victim to AT&T  Unauthorized Charges
  • The case was heard in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia
  • Under the terms of the settlement AT&T will be required to gain the customers express, informed consent before making any third party text charges

FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez stated “I am very pleased that this settlement will put tens of millions of dollars back in the pockets of consumers harmed by AT&T’s cramming of its mobile customers,”.  The Federal Trade Commission can be reached at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357).
